As the Greenhouse Labor Manager at Bosch Berries, you will be bringing stakeholders across the facility together to ensure collaboration and a shared focus on operations, production, productivity, labor scheduling, and optimization of processes. Building and maintaining open lines of communication and connecting teams is essential for success in this role.

Please note that while this job description outlines your primary responsibilities, you will also be required to assist in various tasks In the Greenhouse and or Packhouse beyond your core job description when the need arises. These tasks are outlined in the Crop Care Specialist and Packhouse Specialist job descriptions.

What You’ll Do:

The Labor Manager is tasked with planning all greenhouse activities carried out by the staff and ensuring their effective implementation by planning, supervising, and coaching the greenhouse supervisors and having continuous oversight of all activities.

The oversight of the workforce involves the following:

· Strategically determining the necessary labor force,

· Outlining plans for meeting staffing requirements

· Establishing the optimal number of personnel required daily, weekly, and monthly to meet predefined objectives.

· Setting the weekly KPIs for all tasks, including piece rate targets.

· Monitoring labor performance and quality.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Labor Manager’s daily responsibilities primarily involve overseeing activities within the greenhouse to ensure optimal workforce performance. Key tasks include:

· Collaborate with the Grower team and Greenhouse Operations leadership team with input from PRIVA performance data in developing operational and production plans to drive and optimize crop quantity while achieving quality, speed, and cost-effective productivity

· Manage labor schedule and all system-related information, including timekeeping and employee data and crop work progress within the Priva labor system, with the ability to analyze and report on critical cost and productivity data

· Manage contractor labor performance

· Responsibility for ensuring all workers adhere to company Food Safety and OSHA rules.

· Final responsibility for correctly executing the piece rate system, setting its weekly level, and maintaining accuracy.

· Daily execution of short-term labor planning, conducting/overseeing quality and performance checks, and ensuring the accuracy of labor data and labor registration.

· Taking the final responsibility for all labor tasks performed in the greenhouse and the quality level of the work performed.

· Analysis of FS Performance labor data and requirements daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.

· Supervise the daily work performance of all supervisors, extending to crop workers and harvesters.

· Prompt reporting of technical failures to the relevant personnel.

· Collaborate with the Harvesting Supervisor and Packhouse Manager to optimize internal logistics and workflow efficiency.

· Cooperation with the Systems Coordinator to ensure the validity of Priva FS Performance data, maintaining its accuracy, and utilizing this information for future labor planning.

· Assisting with/developing and managing weekly, monthly, and annual labor budgets.

· Assisting with any other required tasks as requested by their manager.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent level gained by practical experience in a relevant field) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience is necessary, preferably in a related field in a similar position.
  • Proficient in business operations and processes.
  • Adaptable and flexible to shift focus and energy when priorities change.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Proven experience in leading and training teams, enhancing their performance.
  • Exceptional English communication skills are a prerequisite, and a working knowledge of Spanish or a willingness to upskill is desirable.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, with the willingness and ability to be trained on the Priva FS Performance system.

– Conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity, varying temperatures (34oF to 110+oF), and background noise approaching 80 decibels.

– Must have manual dexterity to perform computer skills and operate equipment.

– Visual and audio sensory are needed regularly.

– Exerting force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly as part of lifting and moving product and equipment.

– Bending, stretching, twisting, crouching, grasping, reaching, and lifting above shoulders.

– Standing, sitting, and walking for prolonged periods may be required.

– Ability to work different shifts, nights, or weekends as business dictates.
